Our Workshops

How We Work

We take a three-step approach to community growth, beginning with the youth and expanding into the community. Each step is a reciprocal process in which youth and community partners actively help us redesign and reshape our course to better meet their needs.

Our Plan of Action

  • Step 1

    Our program will first establish a youth-group that blends social and emotional learning and peer consultation and support with soft skills. Youth will collaborate with the program’s leaders to identify key goals and growth points, both for themselves as individuals and in their larger community. Staff will work closely with youth to identify needed skills, information and resources to realize these goals, and work alongside youth by supporting them in their accomplishments.

    Duration: 10-week cycles; youth have the option to return if they enjoy the program

  • Step 2

    Based on our focus sessions during Step 1, we will build a youth job-development program that will articulate and meet the specific needs and interests of the youth we’re serving. Once we’ve established a genuine sense of culture and community, our goal is to prepare older children with cutting edge skills and experiences to increase their chances of thriving in an emerging technological, professionalized world. As part of this process, we will connect older youth to mentors and internships in the community. As youth enter and graduate from the program, we will maintain contact and build a diverse network of internships and mentors for future students.

    Duration: 12 weeks

  • Step 3

    As the jobs’ program becomes more refined in working alongside the youth, we will extend these services to the adult community. Simultaneously, as youth leaders graduate from high school and pursue further education and entrepreneurship, we will establish a mentorship network that connects new youth with similar interests to graduates as they pursue their careers.

    Duration: 12 weeks
